Choosing the Right Material
SMP vs PVDF

SMP (Silicone-Modified Polyester) provides:
Durability – typically more resistant to rough handling as compared to PVDF
Lower Cost – compared to PVDF systems, the cost is usually less for SMPs

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride)
Gloss & Colour Retention – gloss and colour remain intact longer as compared to other paint systems
Chalk & Fade Resistance – provide superior UV resistance meaning better aesthetics longer- term
Harsh Weather Resistance – performs better in harsh environments
Potential Energy Savings – coating composition offers superior reflectivity and emissivity which may equate to energy savings on your building

GAUGE

The three most common gauges for many metal roofing applications are:
26ga
Cost – most cost effective option
Availability – only available in SMP colours
Appearance – it is thinner causing some substrate imperfections to appear in the finished product, though it is generally acceptable for most applications
24ga
Cost – slightly more expensive than 26ga and varies depending on coating. This is the the most commonly selected gauge for residential and commercial applications
Availability – all SMP and PVDF colours are available in 24ga
Appearance – maintains a better aesthetic than the 26ga though some imperfections may appear
22ga
Cost – most expensive option
Availability – most SMP and PVDF colour options are available
Appearance – 22ga is the most durable and will maintain its intended appearance the best; however it is typically only used in industrial applications

The Metal Roof Installation Process
1. Before beginning any work, a CTE roofing professional will discuss all available options with you and ensure your concerns, needs, wants, and dreams are understood while providing careful advice to ensure you are receiving the exact product to meet your needs.

2. Once the initial consultation is complete and products have been selected, we will begin by tearing off the existing roof and examining the substrate. Some repairs or complete re-sheaths might be required to ensure the longevity and structural integrity of your roof.

3. Depending on the slope of your roof, the exposure of your property to weather, and varying product manufacturer recommendations, we will install a mechanically fastened or self-adhered underlayment. This will keep the be your first line of defence to moisture and will provide a barrier between the metal and the sheathing.

4. During the installation of the underlayment, flashings at the eaves and in the valleys will be tied in for optimal moisture deflection.

5. The most exciting step is to install the roofing panels and associated termination flashings to complete your roof. This is where you will see if all come together.
6. The final step is a thorough clean up of the site and a brief consult with you to ensure you are 100% satisfied with the finished product.
